Warning: Slight spoiler Hi everyone!  Today, we're going to talk about Girls Save the World in This One by Ash Parsons.  This was a delightful little treat.  Its message of sisterhood and community was beautiful.   June 's  whole life has been leading up to this: ZombieCon, the fan convention celebrating all things zombies.  She and her two best friends plan on hitting all the panels, photo ops, and meeting the heartthrob lead of their favorite zombie apocalypse show  Human Wasteland .   And when they arrive everything seems perfect, though June has to shrug off some weirdness from other fans—people shambling a little too much, and someone actually biting a cast member. Then all hell breaks loose and June and her friends discover the truth: real zombies are taking over the con. Now June must do whatever it takes to survive a horde of actual brain-eating zombies—and save the world. I really enjoyed this book!  It had everythin...

Warning: Slight spoilers ahead Have you ever read a book that just gets you?  A book that says exactly what you're thinking?  Well, that's how I felt when I read this book.  A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow is a story of sisterhood, Black Girl Magic, and using your voice.  It takes places in a world that is similar to ours, but fantastical creatures such as gargoyles and elokos exist.   Tavia is at odds with the world because she has to keep her siren identity under wraps.  To top it off, she lives in Portland, Oregon, a city with a handful of black people and even fewer magical people.  Luckily, she has her best friend Effie as they tackle high school drama, unrequited crushes, and family secrets.  But everything changes in the aftermath of a siren murder trial that rocks the nation; the girls' favorite Internet fashion icon reveals that she's a siren, and the news rips through their community.  Tensions rise as demons fro...

Their only rivals in power are the White Flowers, who have fought the Scarlets for generations. And behind every move is the heir, Roma Montagov, Juliette’s first love and first betrayal.   However, when gangsters on both sides show signs of instability culminating in clawing their own throats out, the people start to whisper.  Word of a contagion and a monster in the shadows spreads throughout the city.  As the deaths stack up, Juliette and Roma must set their guns—and grudges—aside and work together, for if they can’t stop this madness, then there will be no city left for either to ru...
